IMSL and Ariel Re Affirm Key Partnership for Innovation in Terrorism Modelling

By Web Team / 19 September 2016 / Company News, Insights

Ariel Re have renewed their contract for IMSL’s terrorism services after a ground breaking first year. Ariel have procured StormCloud, the IMSL data service, with the Terrorism, SR&CC and War On Land packages, the StormCloud global target services, and support in geospatial intelligence.

Dr Raveem Ismail, Specialty Underwriter at Ariel Re, also a founding editor of the Journal of Terrorism & Cyber Insurance, was seeking to build a genuinely global high-resolution analytical framework, for both accumulation and stochastic pricing.

“Our mission at Ariel was to understand, spatially aggregate, and technically price every single risk, pre-bind, enabling us to prudently underwrite a balanced portfolio. IMSL helped us solve this challenge without compromise, in one year.

I needed detailed threat data, flexibility, geospatial analytics expertise, and providers who had an excellent pedigree of intelligence analysis. IMSL delivered on all fronts, and I never felt I was abandoned with a login to some data site! Steve and the team at IMSL are that rare confluence of experts in the peril, who also possess a passion for producing and manipulating data.”

Steve Johnson, IMSL Consulting Director, went on to say “Raveem is one of the leading practitioners in terrorism (re)insurance and it has been very exciting to work with him. Generally, in this field it is very difficult for companies to really innovate due to existing processes, so it is a huge testament to Ariel Re and Raveem that they have grasped the nettle to try to deliver the next generation in this space.”

Ariel Re and IMSL look forward to continuously improving the Ariel Re Political Violence models, and to producing new solutions in the Specialty space.
